Blue stands for paper, cardboard and cartons: the blue bin typically takes newspapers and magazines, catalogues and flyers, writing, printing and copy paper, envelopes, and cardboard packaging. Folding boxes and cartons should be broken down and laid flat, otherwise the container fills up with just a few pieces. Wet or coated paper, baking paper, tissues and kitchen roll do not belong in it, nor, in many regions, do beverage cartons, which are assigned to packaging collection. Some municipalities use green rather than blue containers for waste paper – colour allocation is a municipal matter and should be briefly checked before purchase.
