The closed lid protects the contents from moisture – this preserves the recycling value of the paper and prevents the bin from becoming unnecessarily heavy from rainwater. Note the maximum filling weight of 24 kg, as paper is denser than it appears when tossed in. Which colour your municipality specifies for waste paper is governed by local waste regulations.
